Stone Memorial defeated West Boca Raton High School on Saturday to win the Holiday Basketball Classic of the Palm Beaches.

The Stone Memorial Lady Panthers’ trip to Palm Beach, FL, this past week was a fruitful one as SMHS won three games on their way to the Holiday Basketball Classic of the Palm Beaches championship. Stone Memorial defeated Walton-Verona High School of Kentucky 53-50 in Friday’s semifinal and Florida’s West Boca Raton High School 51-43 in the championship game Saturday.

 

Walton-Verona

The Lady Panthers trailed most of the contest in Friday’s semifinal against Walton-Verona but came back to win 53-50. Senior Alex Eldridge hit four three-pointers on her way to 20 points in the contest.

SMHS trailed 27-21 at halftime and 40-33 going into the final period. SMHS put together strong comeback in the final period to outscore Walton-Verona 20-10 to win 53-50. Lady Panther Emily Boyd had six fourth-quarter points. Tessa Miller had 11 points for SMHS in the win.

West Boca Raton

Saturday’s championship saw the Lady Panthers matched up with West Boca Raton High School. Miller led the way with 19 points in the contest to give her team a 51-43 victory.

SMHS had to come from behind again as West led 24-15 at halftime. The Lady Panthers held West to only five third-quarter points while putting up 13 of their own to bring the lead within one point at 29-28.

Stone Memorial put up 23 points in the final period to win 51-43. The Lady Panthers are now 10-3 on the season and have won 10 straight. SMHS will play again on Tuesday, Jan. 8, when they travel to Warren County for their first District 6AAA contest of the season.
