Brittany Green's walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Cumberland County High School Lady Jets softball team a 7-5 victory over the Walker Valley Lady Mustangs Friday night to claim the District 5AAA Tournament championship.

With one out in the inning and trailing 5-4, Jami McNelley singled, Jennifer Barnwell reached on an error and Hannah Rinks reached on a fielder's choice, forcing McNelley at third base.

Green drilled a two-out, two-two pitch over the left field fence to give the Lady Jets the 7-5 win a berth in the Region 3AAA Tournament Monday night against the Ooltewah Lady Owls, District 6AAA runners-up.

'It was sort of inside. I hoping it would win the game," said Green.

Cumberland County led 4-1 going into the top of the sixth, when the Lady Mustangs scored four times to take a 5-4 advantage.

"This was a microcosym of the whole season. They refused to led things bother them, like injuries and personnel decisions by the board of education," said CCHS Coach David Terrebonne, whose team is ranked fourth this week by Nashville's The Tennessean.

Lauren Brown was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts, and one walk, and was one for one with an RBI.

Hannah Rinks singled twice and doubled with one RBI, while Green was two for four with three RBIs, and McNelley was two for four with one RBI.

Megan Massengill was three for four for the Mustangs, who defeated Bradley Central 5-4 in 11 innings to earn a berth in the regional at District 6AAA foe Soddy-Daisy.

Brown gave up a leadoff single to Dakota Davis, but thrown out attempting to steal second base by Lady Jet catcher Erika Davis.

Walker Valley scored once in the second on a single by Ashton Burrell and a double by Ashley Bryson.

Eryn Bain signled to open third, moved to second on a ground ball, and was thrown out at the plate trying to score on Massingale's single by Kimbrell.

She retired the next seven hitters before walking Davis to open the sixth. Singles by Massingale, Ashley Alverson, Kara Brigham and Lauren Whaley produced the four runs.

Brown allowed a one-out single in the seventh by Davis.

Cumberland County took a 1-0 lead in the first, when Jalisa Parham reachd on an error and scored on McNelley's double, and took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a double by Rinks and singles by Green and Brown.

Barnwell walked with two out in the third, and Rinks singled, but both were stranded.

Campbell singled in the fourth, but courtesy runner Samantha Norris was stranded at third.

CCHS scored twice in the fifth inning for a 4-1 lead, when Parham singled and scored on Rinks' triple. Rinks scored on an error.

Hayley McKinney singled in the sixth, but was stranded.

With one out McNelley singled to start the rally, sending the Lady Jets into the regional tournament.
