The racing action was fast and furious again on Saturday night at Crossville Raceway. With the cooler temperatures, it made ideal weather for sling-em sideways dirt track action.
•Late Models: Ruben Mayfield set fast time in qualifying with a lap of 14:03. Lynn Selby won the first heat race, followed by Joe Cline in second and Jeff Walker third.
Perry Delaney won the second heat race with Kenny Cobble second and Shannon Elrod third.
The Hoosier Fast Car Dash was won by Scott Shelton with Buddy Knox second and Trent Mullinax third.
Knox took the lead in the 30-lap feature, with Shelton second and Mike Weeks third.
On lap 12, Jesse Lowe passed Mullinax for fourth, and Weeks began pressuring Shelton for second on lap 15.
On lap 24, Walker's ride caught fire while running in fifth. Weeks got by Shelton for second on lap 25 and Lowe passed Shelton for third.
Knox drove an excellent race to pick up his first career feature win a Crossville Raceway, with Weeks second, Lowe third, Shelton fourth and Elrod fifth.
•Street Stocks: Raymond Sheppard won the heat race.
Sheppard jumped into the lead with Adam Engle sescond at the start of the featurea. On lap five, Sheppard experienced problems and slowed on the track to hand the lead over to Engle. Sheppard passed Kevin Burchfield on the restart for second. Engle lead the remaining laps to pick up his first feature win at Crossville Raceway. Sheppard was second with Burchfield third.
•Front Runners: Excitement and the unexpected is the norm for this class and this week didn’t disappoint.
Robert Stone and J.D. Rector won the heat races.
Stone powered into the lead at the start of the feature, followed by Nick Adams and Rector. On lap three, Nathan Adams moved into fifth and took over fourth ahead of Stephen Conley. He passed Nick Adams on lap eight for third. Conley got by Nick Adams for fourth on lap 12.
On lap 14, Stone began to lose fluid on the track, sending him into the pits, which gave Rector the lead, with Nathan Adams second, and Conley passed Nathan Adams for second.
Nathan Adams passed Conley for second on lap 16, and Nick Adams and Matthew Sullivan both passed Conley for third and fourth, respectively.
Nathan Adams passed Rector for the lead on lap 17 and held on to take an apparent win; but, Rector protested Nathan Adams immediately following the race. Nathan Adams refused to be torn down, thus turning over the victory to Rector.
Nick Adams was second, with Sullivan third, Conley fourth and Stone fifth.
•Mini Stocks: Todd Spivey and Dustin Benton won the heat races. Spivey took the lead in the 20-lap feature, with Benton running second and Paul Ramsey third.
On lap 10, Ramsey pressured Benton for second. On lap 16, Ramsey passed Benton for second. Spivey led the remaining laps for the win, with Ramsey second, Benton third, Tony Lewis fourth and Rick Ramsey fifth.
•Jr. Hornets: Kane Pelfrey won his fifh feature of the year, with Kenzie Kirkland second, Carlie Mullinax third and Kelly Morton fourth.
Crossville Raceway will be in action tonight (June 5), as the Late Models and the Front Runners will be in action, along with a special appearance by the Open Wheel Modifieds class. For more information, check on the website at www.crossvilleraceway.net.
