For the second straight week, the Cumberland County High School Jets faced another team for homecoming, the Coffee County Red Raiders from Manchester, with the hosts posting a 43-0 victory.

"Coffee County looks like a very powerful team and could go deep into the playoffs," said Jet Coach Tony Shultz, whose team fell to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in Region 3-5A.

The hosts dominated the game offensively, rushing for 338 yards on 58 attempts and passing for 44 yards on two of five tosses with two touchdowns.

This was one of the worst offensive showings of the season for the Jets, as they rushed for minus 13 yards on 18 attempts and 10 yards passing on one of 13 attempts.

Cumberland County received an early break in the game, recovering a fumble after the Red Raiders' Sam Myers fumbled the opening kick at the Jets' 33-yard line. Travis Whittenburg caused the fumble, with Lucas Johnson recovering for the Jets.

But the Red Raiders' defense would force the Jets to go three plays and out. The snap from center sailed over the head of Jet punter Bobby Griffin into the end zone for a safety, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead.

After that, it was all Coffee County.

Blake Tinsley returned the ensuing kick 57 yards to the Jet five-yard line. Three plays later, Ethen Henley scored to give the Red Raiders an 8-0 advantage. Kevin Brown's PAT made it 9-0.

Coffee County would score two more times in the first quarter, on a 10-yard run by Henley, capping an 11-play drive and on a 38-yard run by Tinsley to cap a three-play 46-yard drive. Brown converted both PATs for a 23-0 lead.

Holding up the defensive side for the Jets were Whittenburg, Johnson, Griffin, Frank Pursell, Travis Dawson, Cody Vance, Cody Suggs, Ethan Sanders, Sean McGonagle and Chase Woods.

Coffee County scored three times in the second quarter to swell the lead to 43-0.

Michael Goines scored on a three-yard run, capping a nine-play drive. Brown's PAT was no good.

The lead swelled to 36-0, as Brian Anderson passed 27 yards to Tinsely for a TD with 7:22 left in the half. Brown's PAT was good.

With 2:54 left, Anderson hit Tinsely for a 17-yard strike for a 42-0 advantage. Brown's PAT made it 43-0.

The Jets picked up their only first down of the game on a 10-yard pass from Terryl Bowen to Vance, who fumbled when hit by a Red Raider player. Justin Duncan returned the ball 12 yards to the Jets' 28-yard line.

Coffee County moved the ball into Jets' territory, having the ball at the two-yard line as the half ended.

Leading tacklers for the Jets were Griffin, Zaq Pearson, Pursell, McGonagle, Suggs, Dawson and Johnson.

Cumberland County had three possessions in the second half, picking up six yards rushing on six carries. Brad Davis carried the ball four times for 16 yards.

Coffee County had three possessions, collecting 122 yards rushing on 25 carries, but the Jets' defense would keep the hosts out of the end zone.

Leading tacklers were Dawson, McGonagle, Griffin, Eric Davis, Johnson and Pursell.

Cumberland County will host the Meigs County Tigers Friday at 7 p.m.
