The Cumberland County elementary golf teams swept a pair of matches with Algood and Cornerstone at White Plains Golf Club on Tuesday, April 14.

The boys defeated Algood 149-198 and Cornerstone 149-230, while the girls beat Algood 99-110 and Cornerstone 99-130.

The boys team score of 149 broke the previous record by three strokes on a par 34 course. In 2002, the team of Micah McShan (37), Jake Crowder (38), Jordan Vance (38) and Casey Dillon (39) fired a team score of 152 at Mt. View in Jamestown.

"What an outstanding round of golf. This team has four solid golfers who are very consistent and capable of shooting 40 or below every time they tee it up. This group is special and I really believe the best is yet to come," said Coach Randy Herring.

Making up the record score was Taylor Houston (38), Spencer Scarbrough (36), Logan Stewart (38) and Jake Dailey (37). Rounding out the scoring were Robby Myers (44) and Dustin Lee (53).

For the girls, Logan Cass had a 49, followed by Paige Cox (50) and Emily Varney (63).

The team traveled to Smithville Thursday to play DeKalb County and Algood and plays Avery Trace and White County on Monday in Cookeville.

"We are looking forward to that match for sure. Avery Trace beat us one stroke in our first match of the season. I think the outcome will be different this time," added Herring.
