The Fairfield Glade Community Center will feature the 22-piece Big Band Sound Saturday, Aug. 9, at the facility’s monthly dance. It is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $11 per person. For information and reservations, call the Recreation Department at 484-3722.

Dubbed the “Aloha Luau Dance,” the August decorations will suggest a Hawaiian setting, reflecting the 50th state’s relaxed tropical way of life. Early reservations are necessary. Seating is limited.

Reservations can be made and tickets paid for prior to the event in person at the Community Center. Reservations by phone may be charged to a credit card, but the tickets must be picked up at the Community Center in advance of the event. Cancellations made two days before the dance will be given full refunds.

Vocalists Wanda Hepburn and Lloyd Holt will sings waltzes, slow and upbeat foxtrots and duets.

Featured instrumentalists will be Joe Brindisi and Jeff White.

Latin selections include cha chas, tangos, and a rumba. There will be waltzes, some swing and many additional danceable favorites.

The group includes music faculty members from Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville; high school band directors from Middle and East Tennessee; and persons for whom big band music is an avocation. For more information about the Big Band Sound, access its Web site at

Dance clubs and classes are welcome. Tables seat ten persons and may be reserved. Singles may request seating at a singles table. The dance committee furnishes soft drinks and light snacks. Other beverages and party foods are permitted and may be brought into the facility by those attending.

The Community Center is located six miles north of I-40 (Exit 322, Peavine Road). It is at 128 Stonehenge Drive.
