At press time Thursday, a woman was being treated at Cumberland Medical Center after it is alleged she stole a work van from an Old Lantana Rd. house and then led deputies on a pursuit to Pleasant Hill where the stolen vehicle crashed.
Deputies on the scene said they did not recognize the female, who was taken to Cumberland Medical Center by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, and that the woman did not have any identification with her.
The incident occurred shortly after noon. The owner of the van — who was making repairs to a house — told Crossville Police he looked outside and saw a woman he does not know getting into his van and driving away. The man pursued the woman in a pickup truck, traveling Lantana Rd. to Halstead Dr., through Hideaway Hills and Holiday Hills to Hwy. 70.
Deputies attempted to stop the driver, who continued driving erratically — often in the left lane and oncoming traffic — until she wrecked west of the Hwy. 70 S. and Browntown Rd. intersection. Officers said the woman was traveling around 70 mph when she left the left side of the road, struck an embankment, went airborne and landed on its roof.
Investigation is continuing and an update will be published when it becomes available.
