Volunteer Energy Cooperative (VEC) officials were recently alerted of a person trying to gain access to a VEC customer’s home by claiming to be an employee of “the electric company.”

In an effort to notify customers throughout VEC’s 17-county service area of the potential hazard, VEC President/CEO Rody Blevins said VEC employees are identifiable by their uniforms and the VEC photo identification card they are issued. The photo on the identification card will have a repetitive VEC logo pattern in the background. VEC vehicles are also identifiable by the VEC logo.

Blevins also stressed that VEC employees do not perform work inside homes.

“VEC employees never ask to enter someone’s home and if you have any doubts about someone claiming to be a VEC employee, please phone your local VEC Customer Service Center and local law enforcement,” Blevins said.
