A Crossville Police officer responded to a child neglect call at a Donna Lane apartment complex April 30 after a toddler was found wandering outside clothed in only a diaper.

Crossville Police Patrolman Hammons reported a female resident said she had found the child wandering around outside with no guardian or parent present and the child was only wearing a "soaking wet" diaper. The woman took the child to the apartment complex manager's office. She stated that the child's hands and feet were cold and the temperature was only in the upper 40s, Hammons reported.

Another resident reported who the child's parents were and Lt. Brian Tilley went to the apartment and discovered the father inside asleep.

The father reportedly was unaware the child was missing. The father's identification information was taken and he was then told to go to the office to pick up the child and to keep a better watch over his children.

The incident was also reported to the Department of Children's Services by the police for further investigation.

The parents of the child are not named so the identity of the juvenile is not revealed.
