The fallen are not forgotten

The Cumberland County Fire Department held a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony Wednesday Sept. 11 at the 9/11 Memorial adjacent to the Cumberland County Fire Main Station on Elmore Rd. From left, John Hall, assistant fire chief; Trevor Kerley, fire chief; and Randall Dye, chaplain, bow their heads at 7:46 a.m. for a moment of silence. The first plane struck the World Trade Center at 7:46 a.m. The brief ceremony was held to honor the fallen of Sept. 11, 2001. The Cumberland County 9/11 Memorial was dedicated Sept. 11, 2012. The late Andrew Benson, Cumberland County volunteer firefighter, filed the paperwork to obtain the piece of steel from the World Trade Center as the centerpiece for the memorial.
