A Crossville woman who inadvertently sent text messages to a deputy's wife's cell phone offering pills for sale was one of several persons indicted by the Cumberland County Grand Jury last week.

Jennifer Bess Rogers, 35, 154 Jacob's Crossing, Apt. 127, was arrested last Thursday by Cpl. Jason Elmore. Bond was set at $40,000 on the charge relating to the drug sale.

Deputy Scott Davis in June reported that his wife had received text messages asking if she "needed any thirties," street slang for 3 mg roxycodone. Elmore wrote that he and investigators then monitored a response and an eventual agreement to meet in the parking lot of Lantana Market for the exchange.

Davis, Elmore, Chief Investigator Casey Cox and Investigator Jeff Slayton then responded to the market and met a woman in a silver Saturn to make the purchase.

Instead, deputies searched the suspects purse and vehicle and recovered 25 pills. Rogers provided investigators with a statement and was released pending presentation of the case to a grand jury.

An indictment is not a finding of guilty but a legal document that forwards a criminal case to court for trial or disposition.
