Investigation into a series of vehicle burglaries that took place about two weeks ago in the city limits is continuing with one man in custody, charged with two counts of burglary.

Daryl Bradley Vaughn, 30, 1715 Hwy. 70 W, Apt. 102, was arrested June 28 by Master Ptl. Chris Kendrick and charged with two counts of auto burglary and possession of burglary tools. On July 7 he was charged with a third count of burglary.

Kendrick responded to a call at McDonald's on N. Main St. when he came into contact with Vaughn whom he recognized as someone wanted for questioning in the burglary and attempted theft of a pickup in Cumberland Medical Center's emergency room parking lot.

In that incident CMC security interrupted the attempted theft in progress but the suspect was able to escape the scene.

When picked up June 28 Vaughn was in the company of a Lantana Rd. woman who told officers she picked up Vaughn at Garrison Ball Park and that he had in his possession a large speaker box and three car stereos.

Vaughn was taken into custody at that time and while en route to the Justice Center, Kendrick stopped by the scene of a vehicle burglary on Irwin Ave. There a witness identified Vaughn as the man he saw prowling around the neighborhood.

Later that night Kendrick was dispatched to Buchanan Square where two vehicles had been broken into. Items in Vaughn's possession matched car stereos taken from vehicles in the Buchanan Square parking lot.

The speaker box recovered from Vaughn matched one reportedly taken from a vehicle parked at a Taylor St. apartment.

Police continued their investigation and to date have recovered $1,370 worth of stolen property including 30 music CDs, speaker wire, a jacket, speaker box and three vehicle stereos.

Investigation is continuing.
