A Crossville Police officer walking through the parking lot of a local night spot spotted a man breaking into a vehicle and arrested the man in the act, according to reports and court records.

Charged with burglary and possession of methamphetamine is Gregory M. Howard, 26, 1379 Bee Rock Rd., Monterey. He was placed under $4,000 bond, according to MPtl. Chris Kendrick's reports.

The incident occurred June 24 but was just released to the media this week. Kendrick wrote that he was on foot patrol in the area of Mr. Edd's Saloon on West Ave., when he watched a man open the driver's door of a 2003 Dakota pickup truck. The man ripped out the dome light and then commenced to ransack the pickup.

He allegedly stole several CDs from the truck's visor. The officer confronted the suspect and during questioning, recovered 16 CDs from the man. The suspect told the officer he had been paid in meth to break into the vehicle to steal a handgun. No handgun was taken in the incident.

An estimated $100 damage was reported to the pickup that belongs to Joshua Davenport of Rusty Blue Dr.
