It would seem to not be wise, if driving a truck that had been reported stolen and if one has two probation violation warrants for their arrest, to drive with a wheel on the rim in the middle of the night, showering the darkness with sparks.

That action led to the arrest of a Cumberland County man not far from his home in the dark hours of Saturday morning.

Marcus Allan Braddam, 21, 65 Bradshaw Family Rd., was arrested on two probation violation warrants and is now facing charges of altering or changing a vehicle's serial numbers, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

It all began around 3 a.m. on Bud Tanner Rd. when Deputy Mac Judkins observed a 1990 maroon Ford F-150 pickup approaching, traveling on a wheel rim that sent sparks flying into the night sky as the vehicle traveled down the paved road.

Judkins turned his patrol car around and followed the vehicle to Bradshaw Family Rd. where he conducted a traffic stop and placed Braddam under arrest on the outstanding warrants.

When checking the license plate on the vehicle, he learned that plate was assigned to a Ford Ranger pickup and not the vehicle it was displayed on. Further check of vehicle identification number plates revealed they had been tampered with, replaced or altered. The numbers on the plate attached to the truck did not match.

In addition, it appeared the vehicle was being started with a screw driver in the ignition.

Further investigation led to a report of a maroon 1990 Ford F-150 pickup being stolen from a Whittenburg Rd. resident in May. The victim was contacted and was able to provide the officer with identifying marks that matched the vehicle that had been reported stolen.

In a statement to the officer, Braddam reportedly told the deputy that he had bought the pickup from another man.

Cpl. Tim Tutor arrived on the scene and assisted in the investigation and later transported the suspect to the Justice Center where he was booked and placed under $4,000 bond on the new charges. He was ordered held without bond on the probation violation warrants.
