The Cumberland County Board of Education wants to know what parents and students think of a proposed school calendar for the 2007-'08 school year.

The proposed calendar was presented to the board during its May 4 meeting, and is scheduled to be voted on at the June 1 meeting.

Director of Schools Patricia Ragsdale said, "[John] Saylors [supervisor of student service] and a committee of teachers developed the draft calendar. It will be on the agenda for board approval at the June meeting. It has gone out to the principals and teachers to get feedback before school lets out."

Dan Schlafer, 9th District representative, requested Ragsdale elicit feedback from students and parents.

Ragsdale said, "We will take feedback from all parties involved during the month of May."

The calendar calls for teacher inservice to begin Aug. 6, and for students to attend a short day of school on Aug. 8. Students would return for their first full day of school on Aug. 13.

The calendar includes a fall break Oct. 15-19. Thanksgiving break would be Nov. 21-23, and school would dismiss for winter break Dec. 21.

Teachers would return to school on Jan. 3, and students would return Jan. 4. Spring break would be March 17-21 and school would dismiss for the year May 23.

Also included in the school calendar are days off for Labor Day, Martin Luther King Day and President's Day.

Those wishing to comment on the proposed calendar may contact the Central Office at 484-6135.
