A Fentress County man who, along with his female companion, were charged with stealing from a couple whom they helped pack for a move, pleaded guilty in Criminal Court and received a split sentence. The case against his female partner is pending.

Peter Joseph Bongiglio, 28, Laurens Lane, Grimsley, was indicted on charges of aggravated burglary and theft of property of $10,000 to $60,000, stemming from an October 2017 incident.

Brandy Lynn Peebles, 20, of the same address, was charged with theft of property of $10,000 to $60,000. Her case is scheduled for Aug. 7 in Cumberland County Criminal Court.

Bongiglio pleaded guilty to theft of property of more than $10,000 and received a four-year sentence with one year to serve and the balance on supervised probation. He is responsible for restitution in the amount of $5,000 and is banned from having contact with the victims, who have since moved to Alabama.

The victims told sheriff’s investigators that the couple had been helping them pack their belongings for the move and that Bongiglio had shown “a lot of interest in the firearms” the couple owned.

That night, someone broke into the house they were moving from and stole a vintage gold pocket watch, two rifles, a shotgun, 500 silver coins and assorted jewelry.

Sheriff’s Investigator Robert “Bo” Kollros executed a search warrant on a W. First St. address and recovered around $11,000 worth of stolen property. The couple was later found at a residence in Fentress County and were taken into custody.

Bongiglio is being credit for $152 days already served.
