A Crossville man and woman have been arrested and are charged with felony aggravated robbery of an elderly man and woman that occurred May 24 around 2 p.m. at the male victim’s home.
William Jefferson Boggs, 53, 1991 Pigeon Ridge Rd., and Debbie Louise Ledbetter, 45, 24 Birch Circle, were placed under $100,000 bond after they were arrested the following day.
The pair are accused of going to the Tom Smith residence on T.O. Smith Rd. and assaulting and robbing the 79-year-old and Virginia Presley.
Sheriff’s Investigator Robert “Bo” Kollros’ report states that the two suspects are accused of entering Smith’s home wearing a “Scream” mask and half mask, of scuffling with the victims and pointing a handgun at the couple. The report also claims that Ledbetter struck Presley in the should with a baseball bat during the physical confrontation.
The gun turned out to be a pellet gun.
The victims’ hands, legs and feet were then taped or tied together while the two assailants ransacked the house, stealing guns, pills, keys, and $3,300 in cash.
Investigators later located the pair, along with a large amount of cash, a “Scream” mask, 23 medicine bottles, three handguns, cellphones and coins at Ledbetter’s home, Kollros wrote in his report.
Investigation is continuing.
Boggs appeared in General Sessions Court Thursday and was appointed representation from the Public Defender’s Office. Ledbetter was appointed representation from Nathan Clouse. Both cases were continued to June 20.
