A traffic accident Wednesday afternoon sent one Crossville resident to a regional trauma center with serious injuries.

According to a release from the Crossville Police Department, Michael Paul Howard, 44, of Crossville, was riding a 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Hwy. 127 in the area of Walmart Wednesday afternoon around 3:20 p.m.

The department says Justin Lawson, 20, of Crossville, was driving a 2017 Ford Fusion that struck Howard, ejecting him from the motorcycle and causing a life-threatening injury to his right leg.

Donna Mullins, an employee at Crossville Ford, said coworker Frank Vitale was one of the first people to reach Howard.

"He immediately took off his belt and put it on his leg," Mullins told the Chronicle.

First responders began life-saving efforts when they arrived. Patrolman Tyrel Lorenz applied a tourniquet to the leg wound. Howard was stabilized and transported by LifeForce air ambulance to Erlanger Hospital.

Lawson was cited for failure to yield and failure to use due care.

Crossville Police were assisted by the Crossville Fire Department, Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services, Life Force and Cumberland County E911.
