Drive-thru court

For the first time in history, Crossville Municipal Court was held via drive-thru window at the Police Department. Municipal Judge Ivy Gardner (foreground in the window) talks with someone who was appearing because of a citation. Court was held with no contact and danger to personnel or the public in this fashion because of the COVID-19 virus and resulting quarantine. To Gardner’s left is Court Clerk Latoya Hargis, and standing behind Gardner is Executive Assistant Sara Vandever. Because the Tennessee Supreme Court shut down in-person court appearances in response to the virus, the city is behind four dockets. Gardner said she is hopeful dockets can be caught up quickly via this method until open court sessions are allowed again.
