A Crab Orchard man was treated at Cumberland Medical Center after he was reportedly shot in the leg while visiting a rural Crab Orchard residence last Wednesday morning, according to reports.

Kenneth Leslie Sherrill, 32, 55 Third St., Crab Orchard, was treated in the Cumberland Medical Center emergency room for the single gunshot wound to the leg, according to police. A suspect in the incident has been identified, according to Deputy Roy Kemmer's report.

Sherrill told police that he had taken an acquaintance to a third person's residence on Barnwell Rd. and that he was confronted by a visitor at the residence. He said the man pointed a rifle at him and that when Sherrill exited his vehicle, the man threw something into his eyes, aimed the gun at his head, then lowered the weapon and shot him in the leg.

The resident exited the house when he heard the gunshot and wrestled the weapon away from the assailant. Sherrill went to his Crab Orchard home and later went to the hospital for treatment of the gunshot.

No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
