Two persons were charged after both were injured when the all-terrain vehicle they were riding crashed into parked vehicle at the driver’s residence, according to reports.

Injured were George Richard Kappel, 21, 642 Old Genesis Rd., and his passenger, Allana Funderburk, 20, Forrest Ave., Knoxville, according to Deputy Tashia Stone’s report.

Warrants charging driving under the influence, vehicular assault and possession of a handgun while under the influence were signed against Kappel. Funderburk was charged with underage consumption.

The crash took place at Kappel’s home Saturday shortly before 9 p.m., according to Stone’s report. When she arrived on the scene, she found Kappel lying in the roadway, bleeding from the head and suffering injuries from a barbed wire fence to the face, arms and legs. Funderburk was found lying in a ditch with injuries to her face, legs and arms. Both told the deputy the had been drinking prior to the crash. 

Stone wrote that Kappel asked her to retrieve his cellphone from a backpack to call his mother, and when she did, she found several empty beer cans, a half-empty liquor bottle, a medication bottle and a handgun with 11-round magazine.

Stone obtained a search warrant to do a blood draw on Kappel in anticipation of him being flown to a regional trauma center. Funderburk was served her charge at Cumberland Medical Center. Kappel will be served warrants when he is released from the hospital.

Damage to the parked pickup truck was described as minor and estimated at $1,500.
