Shopping, music, live plays, farmers markets, and unique restaurants can all be found in the heart of Knoxville at Market Square, this week’s Tennessee Adventure location.

With its parking garage located at 402 Walnut St, Knoxville, TN 37902, Market Square is a 70-mile drive from the Cumberland County Courthouse and is a fantastic way to take in a unique side of Knoxville.

The square is an open area with shops and restaurants on the east and west sides, a stage on the north end and a small park featuring trees and benches on the south end.

Twelve restaurants can be found on the square, including Stock and Barrel, named a top-five hamburger in the United States according to TripAdvisor in 2015.

Other local favorite include Not Watson’s Kitchen + Bar and The Tomato Head.

Eight shops are located on the square with seven more located just off, Market Square offers one-of-a-kind shopping. Earth to Old City and Earthbound Trading Company offer items and clothing from across the world in their stores.

Sports fans will feel right at home in Market Square’s Tailgate, a store featuring merchandise and clothing representing the University of Tennessee Volunteers.

Fans of the arts can find plays and live music at the square on a consistent basis. Shakespeare on the Square will be held July 11-14 and features free admission. According to, the farmers’ market is an “open-air farmers’ market in the heart of downtown Knoxville. Everything at the MSFM is grown or made by the vendor in the East Tennessee region. Products vary by the seasons and include produce, eggs, honey, herbs, pasture-raised meat, bread, baked goods, salsas, coffee, artisan crafts, and more. With interactive fountains, delicious local food, and surrounded by shops and restaurants, the MSFM is a perfect family destination.”

The Market Square Farmers’ Market is held every Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Live music will come to Market Square July 16 at 8 p.m. as a free jazz concert will be held. Two days later, WDVX radio station will host ‘Blue Plate Special’ live in Market Square, a live music performance broadcast at the square beginning at noon.

On July 23 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m, Market Square will host Kid-A Rific Fun on the Square, a free event at the Market Square fountains that features crafts, activities, and games for kids.

To get to Market Square from Crossville, travel east on I-40 to exit 388. After getting off the interstate, a left turn onto Western Ave. will lead to Walnut St, where the parking garage is located.
