Far too often, we hear of another active shooter situation in America. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, 70 percent of the incidents occurred in either a business or educational environment and 60 percent of the incidents ended before police arrived. Citizens have the potential to affect the outcome based up on their responses to the situation.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department will be offering active shooter, self defense ALICE training on Friday, March 2, at Fair Park Senior Center at 1 p.m. The ALICE Training Institute was formed to promote proactive strategies to improve the chances of survival during an active shooter event. Specific and proven tools give individuals skills that will greatly increase the odds of survival. This training teaches individuals to participate in their own survival while leading others to safety. To register for this event, call 931-484-7416.
Join Fair Park as members celebrate March birthdays, anniversaries and newcomers on Friday, March 2, at the center. Cumberland County Playhouse cast members will be performing songs from “The Marvelous Wonderettes.” This smash off-Broadway hit takes you back to the 1958 Springfield High School Prom where we meet the Marvelous Wonderettes, four girls with voices as big as their bouffants and personalities as kooky as their crinoline skirts! From prom night to their 10-year reunion, we learn about their lives and loves as they sing mega popular '50s and '60s hits such as “Lollipop,” “Mr. Sandman,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” “Dream Lover” and many other chart-topping tunes of the era. The Marvelous Wonderettes will keep you smiling in this must-take musical trip down memory lane! Their performance will begin at 10 a.m. Bingo, sponsored by Eye Centers of Tennessee, will follow and the menu will include homemade vegetable soup, cornbread and butter finger cake.
