The 127 South Seniors met on July 8 for bingo, coffee, sweets and conversation. Arlene Simmons called the numbers and Bob Folger of State Farm furnished the gifts.
The regular meeting was called to order by Fred Zoeller, president; prayer given by Arlene Simmons; and the pledge to the flag led by Bob Kirkland.
Jan Neitzke gave the June treasurer's report and listed three trips for 2012 but the ones with the most names written on the sheets will be the long trips for next year. They are the Grand Canyon — 12 days, $1060; Washington D.C. — six days for $535; and Savannah — 5 days for $475. More details later. Jan is collecting for the Nash/Trash trip now and she reminded everyone the bus will leave the center at 9:30 for the train trip July 16. She also reminded volunteers to keep track of their volunteer hours. Also, the picnic at Obed Park is July 15 and bingo starts at 9:30 a.m.
Nancy Fincher gave the sunshine report and asked that we keep the following in our prayers: Louise Visage, Mary Hirsch, Rose Garchow, Glen Huggins, Elaine Rhea, T.C. Lewis, Pat Mount, Conley Howard and Bob Kirkland.
New members today are Bob and Phyllis Jones and our guest was Bob Brown. Welcome! Doris Fraser read the birthdays and anniversaries for July and each member was presented with a rose. Gwen Flynn played the birthday song.
Fred reminded us of the Kroger coupons, items for the 127 corridor sale and bluegrass music Thursday night. Tom Fincher reminded us of Music of the Cumberlands coming up July 19 at the Palace at 7 p.m. This helps support our senior center. Tickets are $10.
We need helpers on July 29 and 30 preparing for the corridor sale. Workers on the 30th will have a lunch at the center.
Bob Jones, our new member, sang for us today. Thanks Bob!
After the table blessing Mary McClure and her helpers served spaghetti and salads and desserts were brought in by members. Thanks everyone! See you at the picnic!
