Music has always played a big part of our heritage here in Tennessee. Musicfest, brings out all those people who have music down deep in their roots, for a little friendly competition! The categories are; individual and group in each of the Gospel, Country, and Bluegrass divisions. Entry fee is $15. for individual and $25. for group. Best individual first place winner will receive $50. plus a trophy. Best group will receive $100. plus a trophy. All second and third place winners will receive trophies. There must be three entries per category to compete. The first place winners of each, will then sing for the grand prize, two hour studio recording time at “Star Productions” in Crossville with Tony Perry. If you love to sing, it’s not too late to enter! Musicfest starts at 10 a.m.

Music lovers, you don’t want to miss Pioneer Day, with over 25 talented groups on four Stages of continuous music all day. The Main Stage will be hosted by “Two -4-You,” Ruth and Wayne Lucas. The Country Stage will be hosted by the family group “Southern Pride.” The Gospel Stage will be hosted by Shirley Mayard. The indoor Variety Stage will be hosted by Tom Fincher. “The Doherty Line Dancers” will also be scooting across the dance floor, as well as the Sparta Square Dancers, Storytelling with the Roes, and much more!

Plan to make a family fun day this Saturday, reminiscing in our heritage at the 27th Annual Pioneer Day. There will be pony rides, horse and wagon and little train rides, wildlife display with games and contests. Let the kids see Revolutionary, Union, and Confederate soldiers, ladies, cowboys, Native Americans, and heritage craft demonstrations. Come see the 40 foot mural of “Heroes of the Cumberland Plateau,” painted by Tom Holfnik. Lots of great crafts, delicious food, and so much more! Kids 12 and under are Free, adults are $5, Saturday Sept. 17 starting at 9 a.m. at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds.

At the Senior Center, the Stamp Club with Ray Kusmierski will now be held every Wednesday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for all the seniors who enjoy talking about stamps. Corn Hole is now being played every Friday at noon with Wendell Lester.

You are invited to meet and hear the professional entertainer D.J. Garrison and his wife Donna, as they will be singing at the senior center this Friday morning at 9:45 a.m. You don’t want miss it, because it will be good!

There is something to do every weekday at the Fair Park Senior Center which is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is located across the street from the Cumberland County Fair Grounds, at 1433 Livingston Road in Crossville.
