Harry D. Sabine, Crossville attorney, will conduct a seminar on powers of attorney, advance directives, and personal wills on Wednesday, May 24, from 2-4 p.m. in Fletcher House, Uplands Retirement Village's assisted living facility, in Pleasant Hill.

The seminar is free and open to the public, but anyone planning to attend should call the Uplands office at 277-3518 to sign up.

Sabine will outline reasons why people may need or want Durable Powers of Attorney particularly for Health Care and Advance Directives. These forms, certified by the state of Tennessee, may be obtained from Uplands at the seminar.

These forms become critical in the event of an unforeseen accident or illness that may cause someone to be unable to direct legal actions or health care decisions. Without signed forms, the courts may have to step in to appoint someone to make decisions for an impaired individual. Having forms signed and readily available to family members, health care providers, or emergency medical personnel helps to ensure that a person's wishes are fulfilled.

For more information or to sign up, call the Uplands office at 277-3518. Uplands Village is a not-for-profit retirement community offering independent living homes, assisted living and nursing care for over 50 years.
