On March 6, a total of 17 students from Cumberland County High School took Le Grand Concours, a national contest for French students.

These students' scores will be ranked against other high-achieving French students on a regional, state and national level. State and national laureates can become eligible for a variety of prizes, including scholarships.

These students all participated in preparatory training for the exam, including practice exams from previous years. As national test dates continue until the end of March, state, regional and national ranks should be announced later in April. Many of these students will participate in the French dictation competition at the Roane State Academic Festival in April.
