Lake St. George Marina was once again the setting for the annual Fairfield Glade Hospice Boat Float, hosted by the local auxiliary on Monday, June 12.

After arriving at the covered pavilion, ticket holders for this sold-out event were served a selection of cheese and fruit appetizers along with their choice of liquid refreshment as they waited for the call to begin boarding boats readied for sail. Bags of popcorn proved to be the perfect carry on snack for many sailors as they prepared for the cruise around the lake on private boats piloted by volunteer captains. The entrance to the dock was decorated with potted spiral junipers and brightly colored flowers which only added to the beauty of the day. The cruising passengers enjoyed the lake, blue skies, and gorgeous views as they sailed on smooth waters.

Once back on land the guests were tapping their feet to the music of Nostalgia II, a talented four-piece combo that continued to entertain as diners feasted on roasted chicken. The traditional homemade dessert of Texas Sheet Cake topped off the meal for all those enjoying this perfect day for sailing and fun. Door prizes were awarded to lucky ticket holders bringing cheers from the crowd.

Many local businesses and supporters donated items and time to insure the success of this event. These were Big Boy's Barbeque, Save-A-Lot, Goldstone's Package Store, Laura's Wine and Liquor, Bob's Package Store, The Country Cupboard, Food Lion, Food City, Wal-Mart, Kroger, United Grocery Outlet, Farm Fresh Market, Stonehaus Winery, Pepsi of Cookeville, Budweiser of Cookeville, Cumberland County Bank, L. P. Shanks, Fairfield Glade Community Club, Charles and Charisse Straight, and Ruby and Allan Haven. Sincere thanks go also to the owners of the boats and the volunteer boat captains who made it possible for so many to enjoy the Lake St. George cruise.

Charisse Straight and Joann Howells, 2006 Boat Float co-chairs, and their dedicated committees did an outstanding job to make this a rewarding fund raiser for Hospice of Cumberland County. With a beautiful day as its backdrop, this year's Boat Float was a real success and most certainly makes all attendees look forward to next year's sailing date.
