Noelani DeRossett puts on a Hawaiian show at the senior center.

Noelani DeRossett is one of the special seniors at the center, who was born in Hawaii! Her career was as a Polynesian dancer, stage director, choreographer and custom designer, spending many years on the road with various groups performing in Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. She worked 13 years on Hollywood Blvd., just across the street from the Mann Chinese Theater, at the Seven Seas Dinner Theater. During those years 1964-1977 she performed dances from Hawaii, Tahiti, Maori, Philippines, Thailand, and Samoa fire dances. Not to mention the fact, she also was in two movies with Elvis! She has just finished a show near Dayton at the Ormond Beach Theater, called Senior Show Follies.

If you’re a lady who has always wanted to learn this style of dance, this is your chance! Noelani will be happy to teach you! She will be starting classes for beginners and intermediates on Tuesday, April 15, at 2 p.m. It may not be has easy as it looks. Those who have say once you get the hang of it, the dance can be very relaxing and calming. Noelani says, “You could give it a try.”

Crossville first met Noelani at last year’s “Crossville’s Got Talent.” The senior center is currently signing up all kinds of talent for this year’s show, which will be Friday, April 25, at the Palace Theatre. Someone will be winning $300! To sign up, please call Tina at 484-7416. Tickets are on sale at the senior center and 5th Street Marketplace. This year’s sponsors are Simonton’s Cheese House, Antiques Collectibles, Mayberry Furniture and Mayberry Interiors stores.

Plan to attend the Community Health Fair at the Community Complex. It is being sponsored by the Cumberland Medical Center and Fair Park Senior Center. It will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. with health screenings until 10 a.m.
