The Cumberland County Elks Lodge 2751 will hold their annual rummage sale on Aug. 24 and 25. This annual event helps provide needed funds for the many community projects for both youth and adults.

Elk members are busy collecting usable household items and clothing for sale. Hours for this event will be Friday, Aug. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon. The lodge is located at 1145 Genesis Road, which is about a mile south of Interstate 40.

The Elks have been serving Cumberland County since October 1989. Listed below are some of the programs they carry out for the community:

•Distribute drug awareness materials to police, hospital and TAD.

•Sponsor soccer team through CRYSA for boys and girls 9 and younger.

•Give financial support to the Cumberland County Young Marines.

•Hold "Hoop Shoot" contest for boys and girls 8-13.

•Have scholarship program for high school seniors.

•Provide scholarships for nursing students.

•Contribute Christmas gifts to all the Home Away from Home kids.

•Make monthly visits to veterans in two nursing home units at Alvin C. York Vets Hospital in Murfreesboro. The Elks celebrate birthdays with presents and serve dessert and soft drinks for all. At Christmas, all vets get a gift.
