Janell Landis and Helen Lee begin the gigantic task of sorting out the used books for the Wharton Association Book Sale on July 8 in Pleasant Hill.

The annual “Pre-Read” Book Sale sponsored by the May Cravath Wharton Association, part of the Uplands Retirement Village, will be held on Saturday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The location of the used book sale is the Blue Barn, behind Wharton Nursing Home on Lake Street in Pleasant Hill. The Wharton Association uses the proceeds from the book sale to support projects in Uplands Retirement Village and the association's expanded mission to the surrounding community around Pleasant Hill.

Categories of books are fiction, mysteries, biographies, art, handicrafts, cookery, gardening, religion and spirituality, classics, history, health, travel, reference, collectibles, "good enough to give" items, and much, much more. There is something for everyone's taste.

Prices will be $1 for hardbacks and quality paperbacks, 50 cents for most paperbacks, with some unique specialty books individually priced.

This sale features a well-lit, spacious area for browsing with the categories clearly marked and people to help you find whatever you are looking for.

Continuing this year will be a Tag and Clearance Sale on Sunday, July 9 from 2 to 4 p.m., which has been very well received. Each person may buy all the books that will fill a standard paper grocery sack (provided) for $3 per sack. Now that is a real bargain.

For information and/or directions to the sale site, call Martha McKnight, (931) 277-5853.
