After 33 years, you would think the Fairfield Glade Resident Homeowners Association (RHA) might come up with something original like a hot air balloon race. But don't think this event won't be for a good cause. Mark your calendar now for August 28, 2006. Golfers are expected at Druid Hills Country Club by 2:30 p.m. for a 3 p.m. scramble, shotgun start tee-time on the front nine. The buffet style pig roast/barbecue will begin after the tournament at approximately 6 p.m. Golfers and diners alike will pay a $5 entry fee for the entire event.

Here's the format for golf: the RHA golf tournament committee (names are secret for their protection) will form the teams based on handicaps submitted and available information. Team parity will be their goal. Each player is responsible for their own greens and cart fee. Teams can purchase as many as two team mulligans at $10 each. There will be awards for closest to the pin, closest to the line, best team, sorriest team and a few surprises. Only the first 72 players to sign up can play in the tournament, so be quick or lose your stick. Deadline for golf sign-up is August 11, unless the field is filled earlier.

Dinner reservations can also be made in advance but be aware you are on the hook for dinner and entry fee if you cancel after Thursday, August 24, at noon. Dinner will be in the Legends dining room and dress is casual. After dinner events will include tournament awards and roasts. There will also be awards for best and worst golf joke for mixed company and several additional items. This should be an enjoyable afternoon and evening for a very worthy cause. The award-winning Cumberland County High School Advanced Choir needs funding for travel to competitions and incidental expenses. This talented group has entertained the RHA each spring for the last three years and now we have an opportunity to do something special for them.

You can sign up for golf and/or the dinner by calling Larry and Nancy Backus at 707-7168 or Carolyn Slack at 484-0864. You may also make reservations at the June 26 or July 24 RHA dinner meetings. If you are not a member of RHA, plan to attend one of these meetings to join, the entertainment and dining is top notch. RHA annual dues are currently only $8 and dinners only $15 per person. You may also join by mail by sending your $8 annual dues check to RHA, Box 2017, Fairfield Glade, TN 38558.
