On May 24, the place to be will be Legends at Druid Hills, in Fairfield Glade, as Resident Homeowners meet and welcome Patrick Henry Hughes, pianist and vocalist from Louisville, KY.
Patrick’s story is one that will inspire everyone and his musical accomplishment is breathtaking. Patrick was born without eyes and unable to fully straighten his arms and legs. Patrick, however, does not speak about his infirmities but instead gives great praise for the musical gifts that are his. His father introduced him to the piano when he was nine months old; by the time he was two, he was "taking requests” and later took up the study of the piano and the trumpet.
Patrick Henry’s national fame began in 2006 while he was a student at the University of Louisville. At the suggestion of Louisville’s marching band director, Dr. Greg Byrne, Patrick Henry joined the marching band, playing trumpet while his father pushed him in his wheelchair through the marching formations. His father, for many years, worked night shifts so he could accompany his son through school. Hughes graduated from Atherton High School, where he participated in the International Baccalaureate program and was a member of the National Honor Society. This is a “must not miss” program!
RHA begins at 5 p.m., with a social hour and dinner is served at 6 p.m. The meal for May 24 is sliced pork with apple glaze, mashed potatoes and vegetable. The “Heart Smart” meal is grilled chicken strips with pasta, marinara sauce and steamed vegetables.
Make your reservation by e-mailing Mike and Kay Bowen at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling them at 484-6645 by May 19. The cost for the meal is $17 per person. If you made an early reservation at the April meeting, cancellations are also due by the 19th, so you will not be charged for the meal.
RHA is the perfect evening out. With outstanding entertainment, news about what is happening in the Glade and meeting new and old friends, this is a good, entertaining and informative evening. Men are requested to wear jackets, ladies dressy casual and all should wear a name tag.
