Phyllis Fiedler was called upon to present the last award at the FFG Lions Club Installation/Awards Dinner to a member for 10 years of dedicated service. Phyllis was so honored as “Lion of the Decade” last year. It was her privilege to select and present the Award for 2011 to Jim Seppala.
Lion Jim joined the Clinton Valley Township Lions Club as a Charter Member in 1967. He served as President of that Club in 1977-78. He transferred his membership to the FFG Lions Club in 1997, shortly after moving to the Glade with his wife, Marcia. Seppala didn’t waste any time becoming active. He promptly got into Sight Testing and worked many hours supporting the Hearing and KidSight Program.
He was Chairman of the Sight Testing Program for six years, member of the Board from 2006-2008 and worked on the Membership Committee for three years. Seppala has been an active participant with the golf, cheese sales and White Cane Days Programs. He also worked on the Fundraising Committee in 2009 and helped get Leo Clubs in both Cumberland County High Schools. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 2005.
Jim also shares his serving talent with his church, Christ Lutheran here in Fairfield Glade. He spent time on the Church Council, active member of the Property Committee and made himself available to contribute time to several other committees.
Lion Seppala was born and raised in Michigan, received a degree in Metallurgy from Wayne State University and spent his whole career working in that field. Jim and Marcia have four children, nine grandchildren and one great Grandchild.
Jim is another fine example of a Lion who devotes his time and energy fulfilling the Lions Motto, “WE SERVE.”
