Every year the Boy Scouts of America honor those who have worked their way through the various levels of scouting. The highest honor a young man can receive is that of Eagle Scout. This year 195 young men from the Great Smoky Mountain Council of Tennessee achieved this honor. New Eagle Scout Bradford Jones was sponsored by John Kinnunen, a gentleman who reached Eagle Scout status 50 years ago.

This year the ceremony took place at the Performing Arts Center at Pellissippi State Technical Community College in Knoxville. Knoxville Mayor Mike Ragsdale was the keynote speaker and encouraged the young men to continue on their path toward a successful life of service.

This year is the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America and John Kinnunen was fortunate to sponsor Bradford Jones, a young man with a service project directed toward bettering his community. These young Eagle Scouts and their families gathered in celebration of their sons' accomplishments.

Past Eagle Scouts are always encouraged to support the Eagle Scout program through sponsorship of this event. If you have any questions or if you would like to be a future sponsor, contact Fred Leach at the Lewis M. Sansom Scout Service Center in Knoxville at (865) 588-6514.
