Wilson Pitt, resident of Fairfield Glade and member of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church (FGUMC), recently traveled to Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad), Russia under the auspices of FGUMC and Campus Crusade Independent Study Programs.

FGUMC is sponsoring the Transfiguration United Methodist Church in Volgograd. Pitt spoke to the congregation, interacted with all members, especially the younger ones. He spent time with the staff and generally witnessed to the staff and congregation.

While in Volgograd, Dr. Pitt lectured to business and economics classes at three universities as well as spending a great deal of time with the English Speaking Club of Volgograd, a student organization and the Christian Teachers’ Association which was comprised of teachers of public schools. Dr. Pitt stated there was a great disparity between Moscow and Volgograd. Moscow is a huge bustling city with modern conveniences and Volgograd’s infrastructure was “third world” at best. The large number of young adults who profess to be atheist amazed him.

Dr. Pitt will give a talk and show slides of his mission trip on July 30 at the Fifth Sunday Potluck Supper at the church, located at 231 Westchester Road in Fairfield Glade. For more information, please call the church office, 484-3473. Visitors are welcomed to all church events.
