The March meeting of the Friends of the Art Circle Public Library will take place Thursday, March 7, at 9:30 a.m. in the Cumberland Meeting Room of the Art Circle Public Library. Refreshments will be served from 9:30 to 10 a.m., at which time the program will begin featuring the children's librarians Patty Dalton and Brian Sherrill, who will discuss children's programs at the ACPL.

Dalton has worked in libraries for 28 years, 24 of them at the ACPL. She is the head of children's services, responsible for supervising staff and volunteers, ordering books and audio/visual materials, planning and coordinating children’s programs and assisting director James Houston as needed. She will give an overview of upcoming activities and describe how Friends' support helps her efforts.

Brian Sherrill has worked at ACPL for five years in the children's department. Before that he worked 12 years in the Cumberland County Schools. He uses his teaching experience to design and conduct reading and science activities that take place at the library and a variety of other locations. These include area schools and venues outside of Cumberland County. He will discuss the outreach program for local children.

The Friends of the Art Circle Public Library is a not-for-profit organization that exists to support the library in the community and financially. The group operates the Friends Book Store, all of whose profits go to buy more books for the collection. Whenever a book is bought, the money helps the library to acquire new volumes.

Please note that they are always in need of donated books to stock the shelves of the bookstore. There is a donation box outside the back door. When the library is open, there is also a large cart inside the back door. Another donation box can be found at the Village Green Mall in Fairfield Glade.

The group’s Spring Book, Bling and Bake sale will be Friday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon. This is a much-anticipated event not to be missed! Proceeds will go toward new volumes.

In addition to funding book purchases, the Friends also finance several special programs such as the Children's Summer Program and they contribute to the Imagination Library.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, except June, July and August, usually at 9:30 a.m. in the Cumberland Meeting Room at the library. They are open to the public and always feature refreshments and an interesting program, which starts at 10 a.m. A short business meeting follows. Please join them and consider becoming a “Friend.”
