The Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church on Westchester Dr. sponsored this year’s annual Fairfield Glade Fire Department Awards Banquet by providing both the facility and meal on Dec. 14. The fire department cannot express enough thanks to Pastor Jay Archer and especially  Nonnie Owens and the servers for a marvelous evening.

The Fairfield Glade Fire Department presented anniversary awards to each firefighter with five to 20 years of service and to the firefighter with the most responses to 911 calls. The highly recognized Firefighter of the Year Award was also presented for outstanding commitment, service and contribution to the Fairfield Glade Fire Department.

The 2018 Firefighters of the Year are chief engineer Jim Piersol and hydrant crew leader John Levesque. Piersol, a five-year volunteer, showed exemplary dedication to properly repairing and maintaining fire engines and helping to bring the engineering crew to full service. Levesque, a fire department member for five years, volunteered countless hours bringing the hydrant data entries up to date, working and coordinating with the Fairfield Glade Community Club and Crab Orchard Utility on hydrant repair issues, and supporting his staff of nine hydrant testers and maintenance personnel.

Engineer Bob Tavernier was presented with the newly created award for the firefighter with the highest attendance on 911 dispatched calls. Tavernier is an 11-year veteran and has consistently shown a history of commitment to being one of the most reliable first responders.

Recognized for a five-year service anniversary were firefighters Kevin Clements, Bob Ginger, Levesque, Piersol, Bobby Smith and Chris Young. Chip Kithcart was recognized for 10 years of service, and Richard Edler and Bob King for 15 years of dedicated service.

The last anniversary award was for special recognition and appreciation of Jim Schwind for more than 20 years of service to the Fairfield Glade Fire Department, the community and as a pancake breakfast volunteer. Congratulations to Schwind and his wife, Bev, both dedicated volunteers!

Thank you to all our devoted volunteers for their time and commitment to the community.
