Congratulations to the 2018-’19 FG Lions Club “Students of the Month.” Students are honored at the Lions’ meeting. Also shown are Cumberland County High School counselors who played an active role in the Lions program.

The Fairfield Glade Lions Club plans a special meeting each year to honor the 12 “Students of the Month,” representing Cumberland County High School (CCHS), Stone Memorial High School (SMHS) and

The Phoenix School (TPS).

The students for 2018-’19 showing their month and school are as follows: August- Kelsey Turner, CCHS; September- Cole McClellan, SMHS; October- Julie Smith, SMHS; November- Jonothon Perry, CCHS; December- Jennifer Vaughn, CCHS; January- Ethan Kirk, SMHS; February- Brandon Day, CCHS; March-     Justin Headrick, SMHS; March- Taylor Sherrill, TPS; April- Hailey Updike, SMHS; April- Derek Moore, TPS; and, May- MacKenzie Hargrave, CCHS.

Each students’ school activities were described, their other activities and organization outlined, hobbies explained, future plans and goals mentioned and family members were introduced. Corporate partners in attendance were also introduced and the school counselors were presented and thanked for their assistance as a group.

Each “Student of the Month” had photos taken with family and corporate partners and a special plaque was presented to the student showing the month and year they represented.

Leslie Eldridge was introduced as the guest speaker for the evening by Lions program chairman Bob Cover. Eldridge is a native of Cumberland County and attended schools here before going on to receive bachelor and master’s degrees from TTU and a Ph.D from Capella University in 2010.

She has been a counselor at Spring City Middle School and CCHS. Since 2016, she has been working for Cumberland County Schools in the College Career and Technical Education Department at central services.
