The Cumberland County High School Garden Club, a service organization, has awarded their 2006 scholarship to graduating seniors Jo-Evin Hash and Sarah Jean Smith.

"We are so pleased to award two such deserving young ladies with our Garden Club scholarship. Both have worked diligently in the club and for their school," said Jane Way and Janet Burnett, club sponsors. "We know that this is not only an investment in these young ladies' future, but also in our community, where they will teach more young people to be contributors to our country."

Jo-Evin is the daughter of Mary Ann and Doug Hash. Her plans are to attend Roane State Community College and major in elementary education with a desire to teach kindergarten through fifth grade. She was president of the Garden Club for three years and served as vice president of the Future Teachers of America Club.

Sarah Smith is the daughter of Calvin and Joyce Smith and the granddaughter of Betty Smith and Myrtle Dixon. She will attend Tennessee Technological University in the fall with a major in elementary education. She is active in her church youth group. She served as the secretary for the class of 2006 for four years and the secretary of the Garden Club for two years.
