Stone Memorial High School senior Hailey Updike was selected by school counselor Andrea Simmons to participate in the Fairfield Glade Lions “Student of the Month” Program. Lion Chairman Bob Cover assigned her as one of the two “Students of the Month” in April.

The Lions program honors 12 students each year and with no school in June and July they must double up in two other months to account for all 12 students. This year it was March and April. Lion Cover also assigns corporate partners for the student and Crossville Heating and Cooling was appointed to Updike.

Updike has been a busy and active young lady in school participations. She is secretary for the Beta Club, leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), member in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), theater, top ten in her class (#6), recognition for 30s Club for ACT (scored 32) and works on her class yearbook.

She is also busy with other activities and organizations: 4-H (Star Leader, Honor Member, camp counselor); National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS); Cumberland Fellowship (Children’s Church teacher); Homestead Baptist Youth; volunteer for CF Storehouse to help the homeless; and is a worship music leader.

Her hobbies are reading, playing multiple instruments and singing, being outdoors — hiking, kayaking, camping, fishing, gardening — and working with children. Her future plan is to attend Tennessee Tech University to obtain a degree in middle school science and psychology to be able to help children grow and develop in Cumberland County.
