Carving Club sets June 26 meeting
The Crossville Carving Club will meet on June 26 at 6 p.m. at Oak Hill Baptist Church on Genesis Rd., one mile north of I-40. Anyone interested in woodcarving is welcome to attend. Dulcimer Club meets
Cumberland Dulcimer Club will meet at 2 p.m. on June 18 at the First United Methodist Church on Braun Street. All levels of mountain dulcimer players and those interested in the dulcimer are invited to attend. Instruction will be offered for beginner through intermediate level players. NAMI to meet
The July 8 NAMI of Cumberland Plateau noon support group and 1 p.m. business meetings will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Crossville. Enter through the Webb Avenue entrance through the circle drive. The meetings will be in classroom 226. NAMI is a national network working to improve the lives of children and adults affected by neurobiological brain disorders. They are looking for active members that have an interest in NAMI or persons who have a loved one who suffers from mental illness (brain disorders/brain diseases).
Hear mountain music
The Obed Wild and Scenic River will be sponsoring a free mountain music concert on June 24. The Mystery Mountain Boys will be performing an array of folk, country and bluegrass tunes from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Lilly Bluff Overlook. Those who plan on attending should bring lawn chairs or stools because of limited seating at the overlook. In the event of rain, the concert will be held inside the park's visitor center, located at 208 North Maiden Street in downtown Wartburg. Car show set
Wartburg's first Car Show and Somernites Cruise will be held on June 24 at the Central Elementary School parking lot on Hwy. 62 in Wartburg from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Call (423) 346-6925 or (423) 539-3523 for more information.
Benefit planned for Donna Johnson
A benefit is being held for Donna Sue Johnson. This will take place on June 24 at the Community Complex beginning at 7 a.m. Admission is free. Featured are Holly Bakehorn, Brent Hughes, Ben Longberg, Plan B, Misty Rae and Cheree Silcox. There will be a car show and motorcycle show with a $10 entry fee. There is an all-day yard sale and an auction that begins at 5:30 p.m. Carnival games will be played. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served. Celebrate July 4 in Deer Lodge
Celebrate the Fourth of July and support the Deer Lodge Volunteer Fire Department by purchasing a hamburger or hot dog, chips and a drink at its booth next to the Congregational Church during the parade. At dark, the third annual pyro fireworks display will take place.
Pancake breakfast raises funds for center
The Glade Creek Senior Citizen and Community Center will have pancake breakfast fundraiser from 7 a.m. to noon on June 24 at 2085 Glade Creek Road.
The Miss Summertime Sweetheart Pageant, which supports Monterey High School cheerleaders, will be July 29 at Monterey High School. Registration is at 1 p.m., and the pageant starts at 2 p.m. Wear pageant attire or Sunday best. There are categories for newborns through age sixteen. Winners and three alternates will be chosen in each category. Winners will receive a trophy, crown and sash. Runners-up will receive a trophy. Best Dressed, Best Model, Most Beautiful and Most Photogenic receive a trophy. Entries must be received by July 22. The entry fee is $30 for the pageant and $10 for Most Photogenic.
