Fairfield Big Band dance includes holiday classics

CROSSVILLE — The 18-member Swing Street Big Band will help open the Fairfield Glade Christmas Season on Saturday, Dec. 7, with more than a dozen holiday music classics played at a wide range of ballroom dance tempos.

The three-hour event at the Community and Conference Center begins at 7 p.m.

“We’ll be playing Christmas music at slow waltz and ballad tempos, faster foxtrots, and swing rhythms,” said William Schneider, the Swing Street Big Band leader.

“We’ll also play several Latin charts for those who want to dance rumba and cha cha,” he said. The band will also add a tango and a line dance in its three music sets.

Two vocalists are part of the ensemble.

Female vocalist Wanda Hepburn, who has been part of the Fairfield Glade big band performances since 1997, will open the program with “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.” Later she will do “Santa Baby” and “Let It Snow.”

Rusty McClanahan, who has developed a following in the area with performances at the Cumberland County Playhouse and Crossville’s historic Palace Theater, will sing “The Christmas Song,” and later join Hepburn for a duet version of “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”

McClanahan will also sing several songs made famous by Frank Sinatra.

Tables seat eight persons and may be reserved.  Beverages are available for purchase. Guests may bring snacks.

The Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center is at 128 Stonehenge Road, six miles north of I-40 (Exist 322, Peavine Road).

Tickets are $27.50 per couple ($13.75 per person), including tax, in advance.  Reservations can be made and tickets paid prior to the event at the center. Phone reservations may be charged to a credit card by calling the center at 931-484-3722. The Community and Conference Center accommodates approximately 130 persons for the dance.
