The Crossville Cruisers will be bringing some of their classic cars the opening day of the “Malt Shop Music and Memories” show at the new Curtain Call Dinner Theatre. What a great way to take you back to the Fabulous Fifties! Don your poodle skirts, bobby socks, saddle oxfords, leather jackets, school sweaters, or whatever you wore in the '50s and come out for a good time. The best dressed couple on opening night will receive tickets to the Christmas show.
Do you remember record hops, ponytails, beehives, DAs, hoola hoops, and American Bandstand? Even if you weren’t born yet during that time or if your memory is failing you will certainly enjoy this show. Yes, whether you’re a baby boomer or not, you should appreciate the changes that took place in the '50s and early '60s. For a time before all those sprawling, enticing malls, there were malt shops that gave teens a place to, well, be teenagers. It was a place where teenagers hung out, met and practiced social skills, enacted adolescent drama, fell in love for perhaps the first time, and — most of all — played music on the jukebox! With wonderful memories of teenage love and life, the malt shop was always the place to be. So let’s go to the malt shop!
The Malt Shop show is never done the same. This show has Minnie and Maybelle as retired seniors reminiscing about the good old days. Of course they still have their roller skating car hop, and the comedy bits as well as Elvis before he became famous! They hope it will take you back to a much simpler time when life was fun; children obeyed their parents, you were lucky to get four stations on your TV, families meant so much and Christmas meant celebrating the birth of Christ. Everything wasn’t perfect, but everyone had a rockin’ good time and their hope is that you will experience that during this show.
Revisit those years with some of the area’s best entertainers while you dance to the music. The group will be Rockin’ and a Rollin’ at Minnie’s Malt Shop. Dates for “Malt Shop Music & Memories” are Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning on November 7 and ending on November 23. Dinner will be a diner Blue Plate Special of open-faced hot roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans with choice of a root beer float, a shake or a sundae and all the coffee, tea and lemonade you can drink. Also they have free freshly popped popcorn during the show. Special dietary needs can be addressed with advanced notice and you may BYOB. Doors open at between 5:15 and 5:30 p.m., dinner starts at 5:45 p.m., show starts at 6:45 p.m.. You’ll be out before 9 p.m.
