Playhouse volunteers prepare for mystery and murder

Submitted

CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County Playhouse volunteers will present Murder at the Tonylou Awards, an audience participation murder mystery by Tony Schwartz and Marylou Ambrose on March 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 at Forte’s On The Square Restaurant. Don’t miss your chance to join the chosen few on the red carpet for this star-studded extravaganza, which features the biggest stars and studs in showbiz!

The doors will open at 5:30 for cocktails with live musical entertainment. During the cocktail hour the audience can mingle with the cast and ask them questions, as they drop hints about themselves and the show. At 6:30 p.m., the cast will keep a low profile as dinner is served. The main show starts after dinner.

The Tonylou Awards Show begins at the door as celebrity gossip columnist Constance Gabbles greets guests. Then host T.J. Hardcastle, heir of the famous singing, dancing, and flying Hardcastles, sings the famous Tonylou theme song, and the ceremony is officially under way. Lorna Lush, has-been stage diva, is toting more booze than the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales. Monty Carlo might be a star in his own country, but his English is almost unintelligent--sorry, unintelligible. Celia B. DeMilo has a weakness for young men, and her newest boy-toy Claude-Jean will do anything to become a star. M.J. Hardcastle carries a grudge against her brother T.J. and his wife, Angelina Canoli, who manages to somehow “win” every year. Is Funky Brewster really that adorable, or is there a nasty secret lurking under that innocent exterior? Actually, everyone has a nasty secret. So keep your eyes and ears open and gather clues, because before the evening’s done, someone will be ruthlessly murdered, and it’s up to the audience to guess who done it and why! Prizes will be awarded to the first people who correctly guess both the murderer and the motive.

Tickets for the dinner and show are $28, and proceeds from this event will benefit The Cumberland County Playhouse. For information and reservations, call the Playhouse at 931-484-5000 or Forte’s Restaurant at 931-787-1744.

Currently at the Playhouse are The Dixie Swim Club (rated PG, sponsored by Happy Hound Realty) through March 21 and the iconic 50s musical Grease (rated PG, co-sponsored by Mariner’s Pointe Resort and Cumberland Medical Center), through March 9. Tickets and information are also available for Southern Stars Symphonic Brass. All CCP productions are made possible through sponsor support, with additional support provided by the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
