Ohio band leader sits in with new FFG Big Band

CROSSVILLE — The leader of a Cleveland, OH, big band will play lead trumpet with the new Fairfield Glade dance band for its first event on Saturday, July 7, at the Community and Conference Center.

He is Terry Kitchen of Lorain, OH, a friend of William Schneider, the leader of  The Swing Street Big Band — Fairfield Glade’s new dance band.

Together, Kitchen and Schneider started the Black Tie Big Band in Vermilion, OH in the 1990s. Currently, Kitchen is the leader of the Swing City Big Band in Cleveland. 

The Fairfield Glade dance from 7 to 10 p.m., July 7, is part of the community’s Fourth of July week observance.

Kitchen is one of four new faces that will perform in with the 18-member musical group for dance enthusiasts at Fairfield. The other three are Joey Blackwell, a senior music student at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Chuck Lyons of Nashville, and Ron Young of McMinnville. Blackwell and Lyons will play trombone. Young will play alto saxophone

Blackwell, from Estill Springs, TN, will play lead trombone. He graduated from Tullahoma High School and currently is a music education student at Tennessee Tech.  the Swing Street Big Band, he also performs with the All of Us Jazz combo.

Tickets for the dance are $13.50 per person, including tax. Tables seat eight persons and may be reserved. Beverages will be available for purchase. Guests may bring snacks.

The Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center is at 128 Stonehenge Road, six miles north of I-40 (Exit 322, Peavine Road).

Early reservations are advised. Seating is limited. For information and reservations call the Community and Conference Center at 484-3722. Reservations can be made and tickets paid for prior to the event in person at the Community and Conference Center. Phone reservations may be charged to a credit card.
