Laugh along with Landry, Venable, Claborn, and Rose

CROSSVILLE — The Art Guild at Fairfield Glade proudly presents a two-hour laugh fest, the “Talk is Cheap Tour” at Stone Memorial High School Auditorium on Saturday, June 1, at 7 p.m. The “Talk is Cheap Tour” partners four storytelling friends who enjoy working together: Bill Landry, Sam Venable, Jimmy Claborn, and Elizabeth Rose.

During their two-hour performance, the four storytellers first introduce each other with some opening shenanigans. Then each storyteller has their own spotlight time, followed by a group free-for-all finale of “encore” stories. Bill Landry confirms, “We all get along very well, and it’s a two-hour laugh fest, believe me. The hardest heart cannot keep a straight face.”

The “Talk is Cheap Tour” is now in its eighth or ninth form. It has been presented to sell-out houses and standing room only crowds throughout the region, including Harriman, Norris, Athens, Dandridge, Morristown, and others.

Bill Landry notes, “The tour has always been partnered with non-profit organizations. In addition to getting paid, we have helped raise thousands of dollars for our host organizations. We’re looking forward to our Crossville performance. The ‘Talk is Cheap Tour’ stars some of the cheapest performers around!”

Tickets for the “Talk is Cheap Tour” are available at the Plateau Creative Arts Center (PCAC), 451 Lakeview Drive (off Peavine Road), Fairfield Glade, TN 38558. Mail order tickets can be purchased by sending a check payable to the Art Guild at FFG along with a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Plateau Creative Arts Center. For more information or to pay for the tickets by credit card, call the PCAC at 931-707-7249. General Admission tickets are $15, and Reserved Seat tickets are $25, which includes a Meet and Greet backstage at 6 p.m. Unless the tickets are sold-out, they will also be available the evening of the performance at Stone Memorial High School Auditorium, which is located in Crossville (Cook Road, Exit 320 off I-40).

Sponsoring the “Talk is Cheap Tour” as a fundraiser for the Art Guild are East Tennessee Dodge Chrysler Jeep on North Main St. in Crossville and M. Stewart Galloway, M.D., Cumberland Eye Care, on Peavine Road in Fairfield Glade and Neil Smith Design Studio, Knoxville, Tennessee.

Bill Landry is the voice, host/narrator, and co-producer of The Heartland Series, which is in its 28th year running on WBIR-TV in Knoxville. Bill received two Emmy Awards for directing the Heartland Series episodes. He also received the Education in Appalachia Award from Carson Newman College and an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from Lincoln Memorial University.

Sam Venable is a humor columnist for the Knoxville News Sentinel. Winner of more than three dozen national and regional writing awards, Sam has also been widely published outside the newspaper field.

Jimmy Claborn is a Davy Crockett scholar, teacher, and writer for the Morristown Newspaper. He’s been a street performer for twenty years at Dollywood, and he’s done over 30 Heartland episodes with Landry.

Elizabeth Rose is a more traditional Appalachian storyteller. She has a beautiful voice and weaves stories with song. She has charmed audiences with her vivacious storytelling in classrooms, festivals, and conferences around the country.
