Pleasant Hill church to host screening of "Standard Operating Procedure" Oct. 16

Physicians for Human Rights’ (PHR) Campaign Against Torture is sponsoring the screenings of Academy-Award winning filmmaker Errol Morris’s documentary Standard Operating Procedure on the evidence of torture by U.S. personnel. The screening will be held in Boyce Hall of Pleasant Hill Community Church Thursday, Oct. 16, beginning at 6:30 p.m. 
You are invited to take this opportunity to engage friends, family, colleagues and neighbors in critical dialogue on torture by U.S. forces, and discuss how everyone can work together to restore America’s commitment to human rights and the rule of law. A short discussion will follow the showing and materials will be available to share with others and to sign up for e-mail updates.
Also shown will be a 20-minute documentary taken from Earthdance: Dancing the Dream Awake called "The Spirit of Earthdance." It tells the story of Earthdance, the largest global synchronized dance event in the world. An inspiring event demonstrating the power of music, dance and shared intention to create a peaceful world. A four-minute film that documents the "Power for Peace" event in the U.S. will also be shown. The event is like hundreds of similar gatherings around the world, creating a truly global meditation on peace. 
Coffee, cider and refreshments will be available. 
The program is sponsored by Cumberland Countians for Peace & Justice and the Network for Environmental & Economic Responsibility of the United Church of Christ. For further information contact Don Clark at 277-5467.
