Two performances now set for Nov. 8 USO Show

By Leila Carley / Chronicle contributor

As reported earlier, the USO Show, presented by the Crab-Orchard Chapter DAR, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Palace Theatre on Main St. in downtown Crossville.

Due to the popular demand for tickets, there will be a matinee at 2 p.m. and another show at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8 each and are now available at the Palace Theatre. Please note that, unlike previous years, tickets will be for reserved seats, so you will want to purchase tickets early to get the best seating. Tickets always go fast for this show.

Not only will the public be entertained by such greats as Mae West (Teresa Wilson), Kate Smith (Kim Wattenbarger), etc., but this year will include the appearance of Dean Martin (D.J. Garrison), the Andrews Sisters (the Susie Pew dancers) with Bing Crosby and many other famous entertainers and personalities from the 1940s.

Once again, all veterans living in Cumberland County are invited to submit copies of their service photos for use in the USO canteen area. The photos will be laminated to be preserved for future shows. Please drop off your pictures at the Art Circle Public Library located at 154 E. First Street. Please provide name(s) of people in photos, approximate date and location where it was taken as well as your name and telephone number. After the USO Show, the photos will be returned to the library for pick up. If you prefer, you can make copies and leave them for us.

Proceeds from the show will be distributed to the Cumberland County Veterans’ Emergency Fund and to

the library/archives program for genealogical books, research materials and/or equipment.
