Aug. 15 downtown celebration to feature cook-off, parade, live music

A chili cook-off to celebrate the opening of Cumberland County schools will be held Friday, Aug. 15, beginning at 5 p.m. The first ever Cumberland County Tailgate party is presented by Downtown Crossville, Inc. Cost for chili is $3. The contest will be held at the courthouse on Main Street, downtown Crossville. At 5:30 there will be a barbecue demonstration by Lotta Bull BBQ team from Oklahoma with free samples (as long as they last). At 6 p.m. “Feet on the Street Foot Parade” will start behind the Crossville Depot and end at the center stage in front of the courthouse. At 6:45 chili cook-off awards will be presented and at 7 p.m. the Cathy Snow Summer Choir will perform; also performing will be cheerleaders from Christian Academy. To top it all off, there will be a live band.

School will soon begin and with it comes a shortage of school supplies. Cumberland Artisans for Creative Expression (CACE), a not-for-profit volunteer organization, is soliciting cash donations and school supplies with emphasis on art items; these include quality drawing paper, tracing paper, Crayola crayons, acrylic polymer medium, small acrylic mirrors for self portraits, water-based school paint, Crayola model magic, brushes, yarn, and drawing books (do it yourself type). Look for the white CACE tent to drop off your donations. Cash gifts are accepted; please send check to CACE, P.O. Box 244, Crossville, Tennessee 38557 with a notation it is for school art supplies project.

For more information contact Tracy Cass, 267-2264, Downtown Crossville, Inc., or CACE President Sharron Eckert, 277-5425.
